Let’s Talk BREAKFAST…

You’ve heard it time and time again: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And do you know why you’ve heard that saying so many times? Because it’s true.

When you skip breakfast, you are not only more prone to consuming bigger meals and more calories throughout the day, but also starving your body of the metabolic boost it so desperately needs. When you sleep, you are going quite a few hours without food and your body is therefore in “fasting mode.” It’s important to feed your body when you wake up so that it can get its system, and metabolism, working well again so that it can do its job.

People are oftentimes wary of “wasting their calories on breakfast,” a time when they’re not even that hungry. In actuality, however, this is the perfect time to “waste your calories.” After all, your body is more likely to burn off what you consume in the morning as opposed to a dinner late in the evening.

This doesn’t mean you have to eat a sugary cereal or heavy granola each morning. No, no, no no, no! For me, the perfect breakfast includes the following:

  • One egg white omelette (3/4 cups of eggwhites) – 100 calories
  • One slice of provolone cheese (50 calories)
  • Fruit (this could include watermelon, clementines, or grapes!)
  • One large cup of water

Calorie total: About 250

I’m getting some of my most essential nutrients while filling my stomach and satisfying my mind…and it’s not even 300 calories! (Note: For the omelette, beware of the cheese. If you add too much or get a very fattening kind, it ruins the health of the omelette/breakfast!)

Bottom line: Find what works for you and stick to it! Or don’t! A lot of people like to switch up their meals every day, as they tend to get sick of the same thing. Me? I eat the same exact breakfast every single day and I couldn’t be happier! Maybe the day will come where I’m sworn off egg white omelettes, but for now, I couldn’t be happier with my little morning feast!

What a typical breakfast for muah looks like. One burnt egg white omelette (I only like it if it’s burnt for some weird reason!), a hefty serving of fruit (I ended up eating more than pictured!), a large glass of water (the best thing for you!), and of course, a good ol’ book (be sure to look out for a review on this one!).

  1. So true! When you skip meals your body eats your muscles not your fat so you will lose weight but your body will be flabby and not flattering and hold on to fat. And when you start eating again you gain even more weight because you metabolism was ruined for not eating. That’s why it’s important to exercise and eat healthy!
