DIY Halloween on a Budget

When it comes to choosing a Halloween costume, the possibilities are endless. There are hundreds – if not thousands – of looks to recreate and people to be. Finding a costume should be easy then, right?

As a teenage girl, you see, it’s not a matter of finding a Halloween costume, but rather, the Halloween costume. The one that won’t drain your bank account, nor will it fall under the “trashy” category. After all, this isn’t Mean Girls.

Here are a few DIY costume ideas that won’t cost more than a few bucks, and most importantly, are sure to look great.

The Cat

It’s the oldest and most classic costume idea in the book, but for good reason. There is SO much you can do with it, and no matter what, you are basically guaranteed to look fabulous.

If you’re going for an edgy look, pick up a pair of high-wasted cheetah-printed leggings from Charlotte Russe. (They won’t cost you more than $15 and you can wear them on other occasions.)

Pair these with a tight black tank top, black boots, and of course, cat ears.

A softer, cuter look would be to switch the leggings and boots with a loose black dress and high heels.

As for makeup, winged eyeliner is a must, as well as a red lip. You can also use your eyeliner to create whiskers and a black nose.

Risky Business

In the 1983 movie Risky Business, there is a very prominent scene in which Tom Cruise dances around in his underwear. Since then, a recreation of this look has become a very popular Halloween costume.

All you need is an oversized men’s dress shirt (which you can easily find in your dad or brother’s closet) spandex shorts, mid calves, Nike sliders, and a cheap black pair of sunglasses.

The look is cute, timeless, and fun!

The Sporty Girl

This look is cute, classic, and sure to get the attention of every guy. (What’s not to love?!)

All you need is a sports jersey of your choice (football, hockey, baseball, basketball, etc.), black spandex, mid calves, and sneakers.

If you’re trying to dress this up, you can pair the jersey with a skirt and black boots. Eye-black, of course, is a must, and hair can be worn down or in a ponytail (for a more sporty look!).

Got a curling iron and some pink lipstick? If so, then you’ll be happy to put it to use with this costume!

You can buy a plain white tank top and, with a stencil, write the word BARBIE across the chest in hot pink fabric marker. Then you can pair this with a hot pink circle skirt, hot pink (or white) heels, and tons of jewelry.

For the makeup, bright eyes and hot pink lips are a must, and long curly hair would complete the look for sure.

Greek Goddess

Who wouldn’t look good dressed as a Greek goddess?

All you’ll need is some sort of white dress, a gold belt, gold accent jewelry, a gold headpiece, and gold sandals.

As for your makeup, you can either play up the accent color with gold eye shadow (Half Baked from Urban Decay’s Naked Palette is perfect) or go for a light, vanilla shade (Virgin from Urban Decay’s Naked Palette would look awesome).

Run a curling iron through your hair and voila! your look is complete.

Finding the perfect Halloween costume can be difficult, but it doesn’t have to be impossible. There are so many great, inexpensive looks just waiting to be used!
