Delicious & Healthy Salad Ideas

Salads. I feel like they’re so controversial in our world today. More often than not, people are repulsed by the idea of a salad. They claim to either hate the way they taste or, my personal favorite, that they’re too hungry to eat just a salad. Both of these completely ridiculous claims warrant the same response: “You’re crazy!”

For some reason, when people think of salads, they think of tiny bowls filled with nothing but lettuce. They think of diets and weight loss and health, none of which excites your taste buds or gets your mouth watering.

SALADS ARE DELICIOUS AND FILLING AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN…if you know what you’re doing, that is.

A lot of people seem to be lost, so I’m going to show you a few of my favorite salads and maybe, just maybe, we can break this myth that salads are boring meals that middle-aged women eat to lose weight.

I rate each salad (which has been given a unique title by yours truly) on its level of health, taste, and ability to make you feel full using a 5-star scale. (5 stars would mean it’s super healthy, tasty, and filled me up and 1 star would mean it’s equivalent to McDonald’s, tastes like trash, and I was hungry within an hour.)

1. Colorful Crunch

This salad has my heart and soul. Grilled chicken, tomatoes, onions, roasted red peppers, and croutons on a bed of lettuce with just the right amount of balsamic vinaigrette in every bite. WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT? I took off a star for health solely because of the croutons, but if you ask me, carbs you should be a part of every meal. Colorful Crunch is the perfect guilt-free balance of health and deliciousness.

2. Chicken Caesar Calorie Bomb

Grilled chicken plopped on a pile of iceberg lettuce that’s covered in the creamiest caesar dressing you can think of with cracker-like bread on the side. If you’re looking to shed a few pounds, then no I wouldn’t recommend this calorie bomb. But if you’re looking for a meal that will keep you full until probably the next day, then this is the one for you. The Chicken Caesar Calorie Bomb is a prime example that not all salads are healthy. Just because there’s lettuce (somewhere underneath all of that fatty dressing) doesn’t mean it’s healthy. Caesar dressing is one of the worst ones for you. In just 2 tablespoons, there could easily be over 200 calories and 20 grams of fat. (And I can absolutely guarantee you that the salad pictured above, and most likely the one you order at a restaurant, has a whole lot more than 2 tablespoons.)

3. Barbecue Beauty

If you eat out often, then you probably know where the Barbecue Beauty is from just by looking at the signature yellow bowl, trey, and of course, side of bread. Good ol’ Panera. The Barbecue Beauty (known as the BBQ Chicken Salad on their menu) is another calorie bomb. But the romaine lettuce, roasted corn, black beans, and fried onions tossed in BBQ ranch dressing taste too good to care! Depending on just how little I care that day, I’ll either indulge in a side of bread or opt out and simply enjoy my Barbecue Beauty on its own. As you can see in the picture above, I most definitely indulged that day!

4. Sweet Satiatior

This salad is the simplest of them all, but somehow, manages to satisfy me in the perfect way. With romaine lettuce, grilled chicken, tomatoes (somewhere on the bottom), and onions, the Simple Satiator is a go-to meal for when you want something light, tasty, and most of all, healthy. It’s tossed in a sweet balsamic vinaigrette that hits the spot every time.

Well, creating this post made me super duper hungry and took way longer than expected so I think I’m gonna go whip up a salad!
